FUNDING: THE COLLAB EDIT 29

A curated list of challenges, programs, funding opportunities, academic research and startups that have caught our eye.

NASA MarsXR Challenge

Mission Aim: As humans, we are explorers at heart, and the search for life elsewhere has driven our desire to explore another planet. The success of the first human missions to Mars will require a sustained effort of stunning technical and operational complexity. With Mars being over 140 million miles from Earth, all the challenges of exploring are compounded by the distance and dealing with situations without real-time support from Earth.

Ongoing research has identified over one thousand tasks that are likely needed to be performed during early human expeditions to Mars. It is unrealistic to build all the training elements for tasks, but using virtual reality we can evaluate some aspects of future missions, such as the optimal size of the crews, what procedures will enable crew health and performance, and what equipment the crew will need to take on each mission.

This challenge is looking for developers to create new assets and scenarios to create realistic research, development, and testing environments for NASA test subjects to give them an immersive experience that can be updated and modified with new hardware and software solutions and physical equipment as they are created.

NGI assure

We are looking for deep tech components; the outcomes of NGI Assure shall contribute towards identifying and solving current issues, but do not need to provide a complete solution by themselves. NGI Assure enables collaboration among humans without unjustified trust.

NGI Assure is looking for building blocks that contribute to providing such assurances include (but are not limited to) quantum-proof cryptography, public key infrastructure, (augmented) authenticated key exchange, ratchet mechanisms (such as the Noise protocol) that securely chain key material, distributed hash tables and DAGs to make P2P interaction more secure, conflict-free replicated data types, mixnets and onion routing mechanisms, consensus protocols, distributed ledgers and (post) blockchain technologies that create redundant data sets managed independently by mutually distrustful parties, a priori usage control, symbolic and formal proofs, and tamperproof open hardware implementations of core cryptographic primitives. The work needs to become available under free and open source licenses.

EU Prize for Women Innovators

The opportunities created by novel technologies and disruptive innovations promise to deliver the fair and sustainable recovery Europe needs. But Europe risks missing out on these opportunities if half its population is overlooked as a source of innovation and creative talent.

The EU Prize for Women Innovators celebrates the women entrepreneurs behind game-changing innovations. In doing so, the EU seeks to raise awareness of the need for more women innovators and create role models for women and girls everywhere.

The Prize is awarded to the women who have created the largest impact on the EU innovation ecosystem by transforming ideas into new and advanced products and services to benefit people and planet.

The Prize is launched and managed by the Agency, and the winners are chosen by an independent expert jury.

There are two prize categories: Women Innovators and Rising Innovators. In the first category, three prizes of EUR 100 000 each are awarded to the three highest-ranked applications. In the second category, three prizes of EUR 50 000 are awarded to the three highest-ranked applications from promising ‘Rising Innovators’ under the age of 35.

Expected Impact:

The prize will boost public awareness of the potential, importance and contribution of women to the EU innovation ecosystem and create strong role models, inspiring more women to become innovators themselves.

MediaFutures Open Call

The third Open Call addresses the challenge of online misinformation and disinformation in different domains.

MediaFutures seeks to support novel, unconventional ways for people to engage with journalism, science, and democracy, using approaches and tools from the arts, technology, and innovation. This years’ challenge invites innovative, creative and impactful ideas which address the issues of online misinformation and disinformation in different domains.

These ideas should help counteract the negative effects of misinformation and disinformation across society, and help build trust in scientific and democratic institutions. We are interested in supporting projects that actively engage citizens through co-design, user testing, or other participatory processes that give them a stake in their development.

We are particularly keen to receive applications that offer new approaches to support underrepresented groups and their public representation, such as refugees, ethnic minorities, the LGBTQ+ community, those with disabilities; or lower-middle income countries.

To demonstrate the viability of the project, applicants should have a clear outline for the data they will require, including feasible strategies to access these data both technically and legally within the timeframe of the six-months MediaFutures support programme. Applicants should also describe how they will use the data and what technologies or tools this will involve to match the expected outcomes listed in the challenge.

TheCollabEDIT will be published on the Collabwith Magazine once per week, however, you can join the Collabwith platform to check the funding and collaboration opportunities yourself every day, or as many times you want on the Collabwith Marketplace.

If you are looking for something more specific, we can make together a “Collaboration Plan” for you and your needs. Check up here the membership options or services.
