WEBINAR Integrated Technology to Business Innovation Framework

A single technology-product-market-business end-to-end integrated innovation chain spanning from R&D to market.

About this Event

Our Knowco Collabwith Community Member Mario Vesco is presenting the webinar on Integrated technology-to-business innovation framework.

A single technology-product-market-business end-to-end integrated innovation chain spanning from R&D to market.

Date and Time

This webinar was hosted on Fri, May 1, 2020 at 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CEST.

About this webinar

This webinar aims at presenting an integrated methodology for innovation management, which embraces the whole technology-product lifecycle from R&D to marketing and business, so to obtain one single integrated End-to-End Technology-To-Business Innovation Chain.

This hybrid multidisciplinary multi-stakeholder cross-functional approach creates inherent alignment in the technology-product-market-business vision, bringing the whole innovation strategy, planning and execution into a unique TRL integrated roadmap.

What is obtained, is a functional organisation with common shared objectives and practices, working together as a single team, encompassing from science and technology development to business, sales and marketing, supported by an effective communication that grants internal cohesion and alignment, speeding and optimising venture-business-product-technology development, minimising time-to-market and development costs.

πŸ“ŽΒ Why does Innovation need an integrated technology-to-business approach?

πŸ“ŒΒ Excessive market pull – great business opportunity but not enough technical content.

πŸ“ŒΒ Excessive technology push – great technical innovation but not enough market.

πŸ“ŒΒ Wrong management team – lack of right skillset.

πŸ“ŒΒ Startup learn by trial and error – often errors are fatal as the high startups failure rate shows.

πŸ“ŒΒ Too often entrepreneurs are either business-oriented with little if any technical competence, either engineers/inventors with little if any market, business, financial competence – a recipe for failure.

πŸ“ŒΒ How to assess and maximise the contribution that R&D delivers to competitivity and profitability?

πŸ“ŒΒ How to craft the deployment of a new technology so to obtain a fast market penetration, without compromising on quality?

πŸ“ŒΒ How to translate a market gap into an R&D/NTD/NPD project and frame its roadmap keeping market goals and the technical-scientific developments always well aligned?

πŸ“ŒΒ How to create the best communication, coordination, cooperation and synergies between R&D-engineering and product-market-marketing-sales-finance within single companies so as in consortia, clusters and entire ecosystems?

πŸ“ŒΒ How to handle the inherent multi-stakeholder multi-disciplinary cross-functional character of innovation initiatives and innovative ventures?

πŸ“ŒΒ How to fast track the growth and professionalisation of startups?

πŸ“ŒΒ How to make sure that technical, product and business goals and strategies are aligned and harmonised and that technology-product development actually serves the business and market objectives?

πŸ“Ž About the Speaker

Mario Vesco Graduated in aerospace engineering in Rome, followed by PhD in TUDelft on aerospace materials. He has always had a very strong interest for the management side of the R&D as well as for bridging the gap between technical and business innovation, science and market. With this in mind, he also pursued an MBA from Nyenrode Business University. In the initial years of his career, he worked with a technical consultancy, covering roles spanning from junior up to managing consultant. Under his input, novel consulting model were developed, which combined engineering and technical innovation with management and business.

As project and programme manager, he handled multi-disciplinary multi-stakeholder cross-functional programmes in companies and consortia, drafted R&D strategy and technology roadmaps, orchestrated the collaboration with research institutions, handled budgeting, work breakdown and risk assessment.

Since 2010, he also operate independently under the Vertical Innovation name, supplying a varied range of advisor services in the field of innovation, entrepreneurship and technology-product-business development. Main industrial focus on drones and UAVs, aerospace, materials, aviation and renewable energy. Many of his clients have been incubated in the Space Business Incubation Center connected to the ESA-ESTEC in Noordwijk (NL). Working with a number of startups has also allowed him to develop a significant entrepreneurial experience, which is usefully joined to an in-depth knowledge of the aerospace and drone industry.

Among others, he can advise investors who need to assess the level of technical and financial risk involved a high-tech startup by providing technical due diligence and capability gap analysis. At the same time, he can help startup in de-risking, structuring their activities, acting as an integrated team and getting investor ready.

Bringing together the whole innovation and product life-cycle from R&D to end-of-life in one single coordinate innovation and knowledge chain is my credo and strong point. He firmly believes that technology-intensive industries need a management practice able to bridge the gap between technology and business, understand R&D as well as market strategy, talk the language of engineers and marketers.

That’s why in the last 13 years, he has been working according to this integrated approach, helping more than 20 companies, organisations, and consortia.

Bringing to established corporates the highly dynamic startup attitude and bringing to startups some of the structure, rigour and management practices from consolidated businesses is also one of his drives.

In conclusion, he operates at my best in situations where success can only be achieved when integrating business and technical competence. He has a strong interest for psychology. His language skills include Italian, English, French, Dutch.
